Since the late '60s until his death in 2008, David Askevold was a pioneer of experimental video, sound, text or photo. Born in Montana in 1940, he essentially lived in Halifax in the early 70s, his experimental teaching at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, including its Class Project recently documented by the young Mexican artist Mario Garcia warm warmer disco Torres, played a key role in the history of conceptual art. This influence can still continue at Calarts, where in the late 70s, he taught students like Mike Kelley and Tony Oursler whose works still carry with them the footsteps of his universe.
