The radar antenna on board ESA's Mars Express has provided new data on one of the most unusual sedimentary structures on Mars: the Medusae Fossae formation. The instrument carried out for the first time direct measurements of the depth and the electrical properties of the material occurring here, whereby new conclusions to the origin are possible.
The Medusae Fossae Formation (MFF) is a unique deposit on Mars and at the same time a mystery. In the formation extending close to the equator along the highland-lowland boundary, it could be one of the youngest formations on the surface of the planet.
