The refrigerant R-410A is a blend developed as the ultimate replacement for R-22 different original equipment applications. For new installations, a team with the right amount of charge and appropriate size pipe, R-410A has shown a (EER stands for Energy Efficiency Rating-Energy Efficiency Rating-) 5 to 6% higher the R-22.
It is a near azeotropic binary mixture of HFC-32 and HFC-125 which has a temperature glide of less than 0.2 C. See Table 1. Its properties are very similar to those of an azeotrope, so that it behaves as a single refrigerant, fractionation is very low, this means that it is not separated in the system and its composition does not change in case of a leak. Their superior thermodynamic properties can use more compact compressors, pipes of smaller diameter, higher speeds and make more efficient equipment because it has a lower energy loss.
R-410A is not compatible with mineral oils because they are not properly mixed with them, the mineral oil has the ability to dissolve uniformly in the coolant either in the liquid or vapor phase, resulting in a decrease index oil returning to the compressor, causing early failure.
The specified oil for R-410A are the polyols oils (POE), which being 15 times more hygroscopic than mineral oils, require to minimize their exposure to the environment.
The POE oils should never be stored in a way that exposed outdoors, 3 tier buffet server and should only be opened just before use. All systems must be closed until any replacement component is ready for installation.
When it is necessary to remove moisture absorbed by the POE oils, you must use a dryer filter in the liquid line and should ensure that the filter is compatible with R-410A. The moisture content of the POE should not exceed 100 ppm
The R-410A is not a direct replacement for R-22. The superior thermodynamic properties and high pressures make it difficult to use existing systems designed for R-22.
